La Gamme, en forme de petit opéra

Three of Europe’s finest baroque instrumentalists come together in a sparkling programme of music from the 17th and 18th centuries. Classic FM’s ‘Rising Star’ Dutch violinist Charlotte Spruit, the UK’s leading gamba player Jonathan Manson and Mexican-born lutenist Sergio Bucheli won rave reviews in 2024 for their debut album Le Mercure Galant. The passion-filled music in this programme reflects the operatic, heart-on-sleeve drama of the baroque. The wonderfully varied, multi-movement trio sonata, La Gamme (The Scale) ‘in the form of a little opera’ by Louis XIV’s court composer Marin Marais provides a fittingly virtuosic climax to our season.

"…a solo tour de force, full of dramatic flourishes and expressive lines, played with great accuracy, skill and real sensitivity”.
