Let’s Build a Town (Wir Bauen eine Stadt)
With music by Mozart, Strauss, Hindemith, Chisholm and Tom Harrold (premiere, commissioned by Milngavie Music Club)
Piano Trio in B flat Op 97 ‘Archduke’
The musicians of McOpera return to Milngavie Music Club for another exciting project performing alongside some of our most talented young people in East Dunbartonshire, and featuring a new piece by Tom Harrold, 'The Darkest Shore' inspired by the experience of dark, furious Hebridean storms.
In the first half, primary age singers and actors and high school age instrumentalists are led by animateur and conductor Moira Morrison to re-create Paul Hindemith’s delightful 1930 mini-opera "Let’s Build a Town", a pioneering work written for children, accompanied by young wind players. Hindemith himself was present at the UK premiere in Glasgow.
The concert also features wind chamber music performed alongside McOpera's professional musicians. The highlight will be the premiere of Tom Harrold's 'The Darkest Shore’, plus Strauss' Serenade Op. 7, quintets by Erik Chisholm and Hindemith, and Mozart's Serenade no 12 in C minor.

"[they] knew how to enchant with the finest of colours and the very softest of shades... a miracle of sound that kept the audience in a tight grip until the very end... The trio was given a huge ovation"
