Schubert
Winterreise D911

"You have to be haunted by this cycle to be able to sing it", said the lieder singer Elena Gerhardt of Schubert's greatest song cycle. And indeed, Winterreise (Winter's Journey) makes enormous emotional demands on a singer, its range and power having been compared to that of a full-scale tragic opera.

Nicholas is one of Britain's most sought-after tenors, well known to Scottish audiences through his appearances as the Evangelist in Bach's Passions with the Dunedin Consort. He is also a committed recitalist, having given recitals in the Maribor Festival, Oxford Lieder Festival and the Chelsea Schubert Festival.

Alisdair Hogarth regularly broadcasts for BBC television, BBC Radio 3 and World Service, Classic FM and New Zealand Concert FM. Recent performances have included the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Wigmore Hall, Purcell Room, Cadogan Hall, Bridgewater Hall and Philharmonic Hall, as well recitals for British music societies and international festivals.
