We are privileged to open our season with one of Europe's finest string quartets. Internationally renowned for their "extremely mature and lyrical sound" (The Strad), the Quartetto di Cremona now graces the stages of the world's most prestigious venues. Their programme begins with the elegant freshness of Haydn's contemporary, Boccherini, and ends with Beethoven's great Opus 131 Quartet. Between these, the raw emotion and visceral excitement of Shostakovich, and a short, intense piece by one of the leading Italian composers of today. This ensemble's focus and intensity brings vibrant life to everything they play and promises a truly outstanding concert.

"a superb performance launched with majestic authority and a blindingly lucid understanding of the tensions that lie within the music" Michael Tumelty, The Herald
