Extracts from Club President Hugh Macdonald's letter to members:

The coming season marks our 70th Anniversary, and we are making a special effort to celebrate the occasion with some great artists and programmes that I hope you will find enticing.

We have invited some truly world-class musicians to help us celebrate the club's proud tradition of concert-giving in Milngavie. It will be a special pleasure to hear Britten's Winter Words, given its Scottish premiere at a club concert by the composer with Peter Pears in 1953, and sung for us by one of the UK's finest tenors, James Gilchrist. We have solo recitals by two wonderful pianists, Oxana Shevchenko and Steven Osborne; concerts by two talented young ensembles associated with the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, The Maxwell String Quartet and The Stevenson Winds; a violinist star-in-the-making, Callum Smart; and one of the world's finest young string quartets,The Danish String Quartet. We're very excited, too, about our anniversary commission, a new piece for string quartet which will be specially composed for us by former Douglas Academy Music School pupil Tom Harrold.

Friday 19 April 2013 8pm in Cairns Church (following MMC AGM)»
