Two of Scotland's leading musicians in a richly varied programme that encompasses Brahms's passionate Sonata No 2 and Britten's achingly poignant Lachrymae alongside a short new piece specially commissioned by the club, with support of East Dunbartonshire Arts Council, from local composer Michael Norris.
Programme note for Kaleidoscope
Kaleidoscope consists of six stylistic variations derived from a simple four-bar theme. The variations display, in chronological order, some of the characteristics of Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Impressionist, Atonal and early Jazz music. The variations have the following titles:
Prelude Andante Waltz Reflections Converse Rag-time
The well-known theme is unstated, but appears in its least-disguised form during the final variation's brief coda.
